POLAND — Voters approved an $8.94 million municipal budget Tuesday, but rejected a request to add $550,000 to an $850,000 bond to fund expansion of the Ricker Library by a vote of 188 yes and 210 no.

The additional money was requested to pay for the heating and ventilation system.

An article amending the Downtown Design Standard in the Comprehensive Land Use Code was also defeated, 191 yes and  239 no. The Planning Board did not recommend passage of the amendment.

Maryanne Amanda Hawkes was elected to the Select Board with 252 votes, winning over former Selectperson Suzette Moulton who received 149.

Newcomer Randy Lautz won one of two open seats on the Regional School Unit 16 board of directors with 204 votes.

Incumbent Joseph Parent retained his RSU 16 seat with 182 votes, while incumbent Edward Rabasco came in last with 160 votes.
