TURNER — The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 2.5 magnitude earthquake at 6:04 p.m. Tuesday, 6 kilometers south of Livermore and felt as far as Hebron and Greene.

Maine Emergency Management Agency Duty Officer Jesse Farnham said he received a notification of the seismic activity and considered it “nothing unusual.”

“There have been no reports of unusual activity associated with the event at this time,” Angela Molino, director of  Androscoggin County Emergency Agency, said.

Several people on social media said they experienced a tremor as far as Hebron and Greene.

Turner residents felt the most activity, describing it more like an explosion and less like what they imagine an earthquake would feel like.

“Honestly, I thought one of my kids jumped off the couch until my husband who was outside in the shed asked, ‘what was that?’” Kaytarra Correa said. “It felt like something huge dropped or exploded and just kind of shook the house for a second or two. It was weird.”

Patricia Marie Pinkham said the activity only lasted a few seconds and felt like an explosion.

“It was different,” Pinkham said. “There’s definitely been some strange weather going on this year.”

“I heard what sounded like thunder, but then I felt my house shake,” Brooke Nadeau said in a message to the Sun Journal. “It almost felt like a train going by! I haven’t noticed any property damage, but it was definitely interesting!”

Some of the social media chatter indicated outages in the area.

Central Maine Power’s outage list showed 129 customers without power about 8 p.m., though no one from the company was immediately available to confirm if the outages were due to the earthquake.
