CUMBERLAND – Bez Mendelsohn scored in each half and Landon Dominski made six saves Friday as Greely defeated Yarmouth 2-0 in a Western Maine Conference boys’ soccer opener.
Mendelsohn received a through pass from Cade Potts and scored after 24 minutes. He then scored on a breakaway with 29 minutes remaining.
Ian O’Connor stopped four shots for the Clippers.
WESTBROOK 4, NOBLE 0: Hamza Nabi had a goal in each half and the visiting Blue Blazes handled the Knights at North Berwick.
Paddy Walsh and Marcelin Kobenan also scored in the first half for Westbrook.
WINDHAM 5, KENNEBUNK 3: Nick Marion scored the go-ahead goal with about 27 minutes remaining, then added a late insurance goal as the Eagles won their season opener against the Rams in Kennebunk.
Marion and Sam Rogers each finished with two goals and an assist. Caleb Hayman also scored for Windham.
Kennebunk got goals from Andrew Sliwkowski, Blake Dallara and Theo Pow.
GORHAM 1, PORTLAND 1: Adam Lembarra scored for Gorham with 57 seconds remaining in the first half, and Roman Mas chipped in a goal from Martin Kalala-Wasukundi with 2:45 left in the game as the Bulldogs (0-0-1) and Rams (0-0-1) cruised to a tie at Portland.
Ethan Homa of Gorham and Calvin Hale of Portland finished with two saves each.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
GREELY 1, YARMOUTH 0: Avery Bush scored on a pass from Abby Lennox in the second overtime to lift the Rangers in an opener at Cumberland.
Lizzie Sproul made eight saves for the shutout.
MT. ARARAT 5, LEWISTON 1: Islah Godo converted a penalty kick, then assisted on goals by Katherine Therriault and Lexi Dupre later in the first half to start the Eagles on their way to a win over the Blue Devils in Topsham.
Julianna Allen and Jaelyn Jensen added second-half goals.
FIELD HOCKEY
YARMOUTH 4, FREEPORT 3: Sophie Smith tallied three goals and Erica O’Connell had one as the Clippers won their season opener at Freeport.
