Cooper DeLois caught a swing pass from Teddy Peters for a tiebreaking 19-yard touchdown with 2:39 remaining as Freeport opened its football season with a wild 39-33 victory over Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale at Lewiston High School.

Freeport never trailed, but Winthrop twice erased two-touchdown deficits.

Peters finished with four touchdown passes, including two to David Ulrickson for 32 and 66 yards. Adam Michaud had a 20-yard TD catch.

Noah Michaud opened the scoring for Freeport with a 15-yard run. In the third quarter, he returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown.

Cody Cobb and Braden Branagan each rushed for two touchdowns for Winthrop, which also got a 25-yard interception return for a TD by Brock Dewar. Branagan scored twice in the fourth quarter to tie the game after Freeport built a 33-19 lead.

SACOPEE VALLEY 46, MT. VIEW 26: The Hawks scored 38 straight points in the second quarter after falling behind 20-0 as they won an eight-man Small School opener in Thorndike.

Sacopee recovered three onside kicks during its second-quarter surge. Tyler Easterbrooks passed for two touchdowns, then had two long TD runs – 64 and 43 yards. He also rushed for three conversions and passed for two.

Mt. View’s Wyatt Evensen returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and short TD runs by Dominic Nash and Bo Spaulding extended the Mustangs’ lead to 20-0 early in the second quarter.

Sacopee’s Bradly Metcalf returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Mt. View got its final TD on a 34-yard reception by Antonio Vieira in the fourth.

BOYS’ SOCCER

SCARBOROUGH 0, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: Scarborough keeper Seamus Corry made four saves, and South Portland’s Michael Zaccaria turned aside five shots as the teams opened their season with a scoreless draw in double overtime, at South Portland.

CAPE ELIZABETH 4, YORK 0: Grant Kelley broke a scoreless deadlock in the 62nd minute, and the Capers tacked on three more goals for a season-opening win at York.

After Tully Haydar put in the rebound of a free kick by Sam Cochran, Alex van Huystee scored twice in the last four minutes.

TRAIP ACADEMY 2, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 1: Quinn Alessi scored with 25 seconds remaining, lifting the Rangers (1-1) over the Raiders (1-1) in Fryeburg.

Traip led 1-0 at halftime after a goal by Ivan Blanco. Fryeburg’s Andre DiMolfetta tied it in the second half.

Traip keeper Jack Downs finished with six saves. Myles Williman stopped five shots for Fryeburg.

HALL-DALE 3, WAYNFLETE 1: Keegan Carey, Caleb Lerette and Jaxon Olsen scored a goal apiece as the Bulldogs (2-0) knocked off the four-time defending Class C champions, in Farmingdale.

Collin McArthur and Davis Madore picked up assists, and Hall-Dale keeper Ben Nathan made eight saves.

Jacob Woodman scored for Waynflete (1-1), assisted by Lucas Plumb.

LEWISTON 1, MT. ARARAT 0: A goal by Jacinto Mavinga with 26:49 remaining gave the Blue Devils a season-opening win in Lewiston.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

WAYNFLETE 3, HALL-DALE 0: Lucy Hart scored all three goals in a three-minute span in the second half as the Flyers (2-0) defeated the Bulldogs (1-1) in Portland.

Lydia Birknes assisted on one of Hart’s goals.

Leah Noon made four saves for the shutout. Hall-Dale’s Audrey Gilbert stopped nine shots.

CAPE ELIZABETH 4, YORK 1: CC Duryee tallied two goals in the first half as the Capers won a season opener in York.

Noelle Mallory connected from outside the box to help Cape build a 3-0 halftime lead. Addie Miller added a second-half goal, tapping in a cross from Hailey Gorman.

York’s Scarlett Ring converted a penalty kick with about a minute remaining.
