When it comes to our electricity, this newspaper’s editorial board recently advised readers to follow Gov. Mills’ opinion and stick with the evil we know: CMP and Avangrid. The board asked “Why?”

Here are two powerful reasons to support a public utility.

1) The governor writes that: “Electing people only injects a level of politics and partisanship into the delivery of our electricity.” CMP and Avangrid are themselves controlled by governments. Do we get to tell Canada, Spain or Qatar how we’d like to manage our electricity? Pine Tree Power gives us a say.

2) Pine Tree Power’s shareholders are its consumers. Instead of enriching foreign governments whenever we turn on a light or charge our phones, Pine Tree Power keeps our money at home in Maine.

Let’s take control of our grid and our power.
