I have felt deep despair over events in the Middle East in recent days. The abduction and massacre of Israelis by Hamas on Oct. 7 was barbaric and traumatizing for Israel. In retaliation, the Israeli government is demonstrating it is no better than Hamas in terms of targeting innocent Palestinian civilians.
The Israeli government must immediately stop the siege of Gaza. Women, children and infants are suffering horribly. The siege is a violation of international law. The United States should put maximum pressure on Israel to not commit atrocities in Gaza. Innocent people should be protected on both sides of this conflict.
