South Portland police arrested a Buxton Man early Thursday morning after a 911 caller reported gunfire across the bay in Portland.

He was captured by officers in South Portland, who charged Mohamud Abdullahi, 30,with refusing to submit to arrest and assault after he allegedly spat in an officer’s face.

Abdullahi was also charged with reckless conduct, according to Portland police.

A 911 caller said a man fired several round near 262 Commercial Street in Portland just before 1 a.m. then got into a car that drove over the Casco Bay Bridge into South Portland, according to South Portland police.

A witness later told Portland police that the man fired two shots into the air before driving off, according to a department spokesperson.

While investigating an unrelated incident on Sawyer Street, South Portland police saw a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect’s car as it crossed the bridge heading west on Broadway. Officers stopped the car after it turned onto Morse Street, which is a dead end, police said.

A passenger, who matched the description of the shooting suspect, ran off toward nearby houses and ran through a wooden fence, according to police.

Two passengers of the car were detained on scene and Abdullahi was located nearby.
