WESTBROOK – Martha ” Penny” Weir went to heaven on the wings of angels on March 10, 2024.

She was born in Franklin, West Virginia to Ralph and Mabel Pennybacker on Jan. 13, 1944. Following the early death of her mother, her siblings Jackie, Lacey and sister Betty were divided up amongst family.

Mart, as she was known to friends, graduated from Franklin High in 1961. Following, she attended the Dunsmore Business School in Virginia after which she travelled to Washington D.C. to work in government. While in Washington, she met Navy weatherman Charles Weir whom she married. While stationed in Iceland, her daughter Kelly Lynn was born. From Iceland, the family moved back to Charlie’s hometown of Westbrook, Maine . Martha then was employed by the law firm of Perkins Thompson until retirement. Charles passed away in 2015, daughter Kelly in 2021.

Patricia Mitchell, her life long friend said that Martha loved her family and her pets. She loved reading, gardening, and helping her neighbors complete yard work. She always would tell me about her good neighbors and how she missed Kelly so much. Gram accomplished much in her life, she was kind and considerate and always positive in spite of her early hardships back in West Virginia. Her legacy is alive in granddaughter Mykenzie Lea Cotiaux and in the neighbors she so loved on Conner Drive, especially little Charlie across the street, born same day as husband Charles.

Martha is survived by granddaughter Mykenzie of Westbrook and Robb Cotiaux of New Gloucester.

A private celebration of her wonderful life will be held June 8 at 10 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook at the family gravesite.
