As someone born and raised in Maine who now lives away, it is hard to accurately describe the damage that Gov. LePage has done to Maine’s reputation across the country.
Much the same way Americans traveling abroad are peppered with questions about Donald Trump, so it is with me trying to reassure those around me that, in fact, not all Mainers think, much less behave, the same way as their governor.
It is humiliating and heartbreaking to see the state that will always be home, that I love so deeply, reduced to nothing more then a punchline on nightly network and cable shows. I too wish that Gov. LePage would resign but even if he does it might already be too late. The damage he’s caused might just be irreparable.
