STANDISH — Zach Dubiel passed for two touchdowns and ran for another Friday night to lead top-ranked Bonny Eagle to the Western Class A football championship with a 28-13 victory against second-seeded Thornton Academy.
Dubiel’s elusiveness on the run gave Thornton (7-3) problems all night. Bonny Eagle didn’t allow a first down until the fourth quarter. Joe Bissonnette caught two touchdown passes.
Bonny Eagle (9-1) advanced to the Class A state title game for the first time since 2008. The Scots will play the winner of Saturday’s Eastern Maine final between Cheverus and Portland.
