I was extremely fortunate to hear Handel’s “Messiah” performed on the evening of Nov. 4 at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke in Portland.
Led by its brilliant young conductor, Emily Isaacson, the Oratorio Chorale provided a truly transporting rendition of Handel’s masterpiece. Its message of hope, joy and deliverance seems especially meaningful in these grim times.
Many thanks to Dr. Isaacson, the outstanding soloists and members of the Chorale and Chamber Ensemble for bringing this magnificent work to Portland. It’s seldom performed here, which is surprising and disappointing, given the abundant musical talent that resides in our city.
