I work in public health in Portland. I am very concerned about the cuts to Title X recently approved by the House Appropriations Committee.
I work directly with high-risk women, people who use IV drugs and members of the LGBTQ community, all of whom rely on Title X-funded clinics such as Maine Family Planning, Greater Portland Health and Planned Parenthood for safe, affordable access to reproductive health care.
With Medicaid expansion being obstructed by the governor, Title X-funded clinics are often the only places where low-income, at-risk individuals can get quality, nonjudgmental care that is within their reach financially.
Cutting Title X funding will be nothing short of devastating for vulnerable Mainers. Rep. Chellie Pingree, Sen. Angus King and Sen. Susan Collins should push for the reconsideration of these harmful and unnecessary cuts.
