SOUTH PORTLAND — Edward T. Devine, 86, died Nov. 7 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth after a brief illness.
On Jan. 29, 1923, he was born in Portland, a son of John James Devine and Mary Eulalia (Duddy) Devine.
He graduated from South Portland High School, Bowdoin College and Portland University Law School.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Air Force as a first lieutenant.
He practiced law with his father and his brother Bernard before establishing his own firm in 1965. In 1976 he was appointed to the State of Maine Claims Board.
He was an active member of Holy Cross Church and the Portland Country Club. His interests included playing golf and skiing, particularly with his nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Wilfred Devine.
Surviving are his two brothers, John Devine of South Portland, and retired Chief Judge Bernard Devine and his wife Anne of Falmouth; numerous nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Memorial services were held earlier this week.
Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland.
