PORTLAND — Mayoral candidate Zouhair Bouzrara was in court today on a charge of violating his probation by drinking alcohol.
Bouzrara, 49, was convicted of terrorizing last year and sentenced to 364 days in jail with all but 14 days suspended and one year of probation. He had been accused of threatening to kill a co-worker in July 2010.
Today, Bouzrara is being held on $10,000 cash bail unless he makes an arrangement with Maine Pretrial Services to get treatment for substance abuse.
He’s the only mayoral candidate who hasn’t picked up petitions for the 300 to 500 signatures needed for a spot on the ballot.
Bouzrara is scheduled to make his next appearance in Superior Court on July 15.
