The highly anticipated eighth annual 10×10 Benefit Art Exhibit and Sale, benefitting Arts Are Elementary, takes place in Brunswick from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 at Curtis Memorial Library’s Morrell Meeting Room and St. Paul’s Church Parish Hall. This festive event brings together people from all over Maine to support all of Brunswick’s elementary school children and the 170 Maine artists showing and selling 300 original works of art. In addition to Hati Modr’s “Color Play 2,” which has graced the 10×10 publicity this year, you can preview all of the art can be viewed either on line at www.10x10brunswick.org, on the 10x10Brunswick Facebook page, or in person from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, and noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at both venues. Each work of art sells for $200 with half the proceeds going to Arts Are Elementary and the remainder to the artist.

The success of this one night gala involves the entire Maine community. Support comes from Maine artists, community members, art collectors and local sponsors. Dozens of volunteers give their time throughout the year. Since its inception the event has raised $79,000 through art sales, business sponsorships and private donations.
At the event’s vibrant reception attended by hundreds of people, Brunswick students cater gourmet treats donated by local restaurants, and the Frontier Cafe hosts a cash bar. The drawing for this year’s special raffle will also take place at the event. Catherine Worthington, a local fiber artist and favorite among art buyers, has donated one of her exquisite quilted textile paintings for the raffle. Tickets will be on sale at both previews and at the event until the 8pm drawing at St. Paul’s Parish Hall. The winner need not be present to win.
This annual fun-filled, fast-paced art sale and reception takes place at two adjacent venues. The works of artists with last names A-L are presented at the Parish Hall of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and artists M-Z at the Morrell Meeting Room at Curtis Memorial Library. The two venues are connected with a pleasant path lit by luminaries. Many of the artists will be on hand to chat with art enthusiasts. Once a patron decides which piece they want to buy, they stand by the work and raise their hand. A 10×10 helper will assist in removing and carrying the art to the cashier where it will be carefully wrapped for the patron to take home and enjoy.
