BOWDOINHAM — Joan Silvia Fickett, 80, of Bowdoinham and Zephyrhills, Florida, died on September 5, 2013.

She was born on April 25, 1933, the daughter of Mae Hunton and Frederick L. Hunton.

Joan loved family, friends, cooking, music, gardening, and dancing. She also enjoyed playing cards, Bingo and reading Danielle Steele books. She was a loving housewife and aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Memories of Joan were her remarkable strength and courage to always be available when needed as a Mom. Her boys (Mike, Scott and Todd) were rambunctious, energetic fellows; Mom was always there to wipe away the tears and help mend the wounds. Her daughter (Teri) was the apple of the family’s eyes. Being the youngest and only girl, Teri was Mom’s best friend. Mom was at her best when cooking for family gatherings, holidays, and birthdays. She frequently played the radio, sang, and danced for fun and laughter. In her early years, she was very close to her sister Lillian and her children; spending summers in Gurnet and winters in Brunswick.

Some fond memories of Mom, were that the beds were to be made BEFORE we got up and her always being attached to the vacuum cleaner. Mom was always needling the boys to “grow-up;” but would always laugh at their ridiculous antics. She and her husband, Clarence, enjoyed traveling extensively during their retirement years throughout the United States. Hawaii and Alaska being her favorites. We remember Mom as a happy person, with a positive presence and a love for life.
