PORTLAND (AP) — A man whose parents recognized his picture from a surveillance camera image after he robbed a Portland credit union has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The Portland Press Herald reports 43-year-old Thomas Monat was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to a felony charge of robbery.
Authorities say Monat entered the credit union on the afternoon of Sept. 25 and handed the teller a note that said he had a gun and wanted money.
Authorities say Monat didn’t wear anything over his face when he stole more than $1,500 in cash. A corrections officer from a jail where Monat had served time identified him after a surveillance image appeared in the media.
Monat’s parents went to the police and told them they recognized Monat as their son.
