PORTLAND (AP) — Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree is being recognized for her sustainable food advocacy.

She’s one of six recipients of this year’s James Beard Foundation Leadership Award.

The award recognizes people from diverse backgrounds who promote sustainable food systems. Pingree is an organic farmer who’s backed policies that promote local food production.

Pingree said there’s “still much to do to improve our nation’s food system for every American.”

Pingree and the five others will be recognized at the foundation’s Food Summit in October.
