BRUNSWICK

Two women have been charged with assault after allegedly ganging up on a third woman during an earlymorning scuffle on Maine Street.

Christine Evelyn Blackwell, 23, of 139 Lincoln St., Bath, and Nicole Barry, 21, of 78 Baybridge Road, Brunswick, each was charged with one count of assault after police responded to a disturbance in front of the Bank of America branch at 1:23 a.m. Sunday. Patrol officers Jason McCarthy and Mark Steele arrived to find Blackwell and Barry attacking a third woman.

Police don’t yet know what provoked the altercation, but Deputy Police Chief Marc Hagan said the incident remains under investigation.

The victim, a 24-year-old from Bath whose name has not been disclosed, was treated and released from Mid Coast Hospital later that same day. Blackwell and Barry are to appear in West Bath District Court on Sept. 17.
