AUGUSTA — The Maine Legislature has adjourned its two-year session after passing a borrowing package that was scaled down to $57.8 million after a weekend of intense negotiating.
Gov. John Baldacci congratulated the House and Senate shortly before 5 p.m. today for doing a good job during difficult economic times. He said the Legislature’s accomplishments will affect countless lives.
The bond package reduces proposed spending for most items covered, but still retains money to buy and preserve a rail line that’s considered a lifeline to Aroostook County industries as well as money for highways, the Ocean Gateway pier in Portland, and small harbor improvements.
