PORTLAND — Nearly 200 healthcare workers and their family members will take in a Maine Mariners game for free next season as a thank you for their work throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

For four days this February, fans visiting Mariners’ partner locations, including Jersey Mike’s, The Rink at Thompson’s Point, Nonesuch River Brewing and Portland Pie Co., could sign a Heroes Wall to leave messages of gratitude to doctors, nurses and other frontline healthcare workers in local hospitals.

The Mariners will donate a 2021-22 game ticket for each of the 198 signatures. Each healthcare worker may bring up to three family members.

“There are so many people that have made the selfless act of caring for others first during this pandemic,” said Mariners Vice President of Business Operations Adam Goldberg. “Front-line medical workers are an amazing example of humanity helping each other. We want to honor their commitment to the wellbeing of our community and this ‘Heroes Wall’ is a small gesture to let them know we appreciate them.”

Bill Whitmore, Vice President, of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s Maine Market said the healthcare company was happy to sponsor the wall.

“Throughout the pandemic, these men and women have been the true heroes, putting their lives on the line to help those in need and combat this deadly virus.”
