In repealing the property tax freeze for those aged 65 and over, the Maine Legislature has shown total disregard for its senior citizens. Seniors loved this program and many of us took advantage of it. Our lawmakers should have put an income cap on the law to start and could have done so now instead of repealing it.

So far, what they have replaced it with is going to help a much smaller portion of the senior community. It is a shame that our legislators could not come with a more equitable solution. Perhaps they should have given this more thought, rather than worrying about changing the state flag or creating new license plates.
