The more than $30 million spent on lies and fabrications by CMP and Versant points to their true nature. They are run as for-profit businesses, owned by overseas monopolies, which makes so much money on the backs of Maine citizens that it can pour more than $30 million into a slander campaign. A recent letter (“Leave Maine’s electric grid to the professionals,” Oct. 9) fabricated with this: “Question 3 will create a government-controlled power authority at a cost of billions … with no plan in place.”

In truth, Our Power grid will be controlled by a nonprofit organization, with seven elected citizens of Maine and six appointed professionals who know how to run an effective power grid. Currently, CMP’s board of oversight currently meets in a skyscraper in Spain.

Pine Tree Power saves billions over the years by paying 3% on debt, not the current 9% commercial debt cost. We have a plan. It is a simple plan of cost-effective local control.

The same letter fabricated with this: “A government taking, by eminent domain …” Local control means we the people decide, through our democratic process through our referendum. Democracy in action is an election, such as the Pine Tree Power referendum.

We have a plan: Our democracy (citizens) must guide our economy – and not be controlled by foreign, for-profit interests. Please visit pinetreepower.org.
