Digital/Print Editor (Portland Press Herald)

The Portland Press Herald seeks an outstanding, accomplished journalist to help run our website and do editing and layout for both digital and print.

We are an ambitious news organization with high standards and a talented staff, and we need a superb editor to join our team. The editor hired for this position will post staff stories, select and post national and world news, write headlines, determine the presentation of journalism on our website, handle social media, write newsletters, and find other ways to engage our readers and subscribers. This editor must be able to change direction quickly as breaking news requires and must stay in regular communication with other editors. Preparing stories for print and designing pages will also be part of this position, so successful candidates will be able to demonstrate page layout skills.

Our editors are more than grammar sticklers. They prosecute stories, looking for holes and structural problems. They pay close attention to how our journalism is rendered digitally and improve its display without being asked. They suggest and execute interactives, multimedia and social media strategies.

If you are the best at what you do and share our passion for ambitious journalism, this is a great opportunity. You will be part of Maine’s finest and largest newsgathering operation, and you’ll live in a region with an extraordinarily high quality of life. A minimum of five years of daily news experience is required.

We offer:

  • Health, Dental and Vision Insurance
  • Short/Long Term Disability & Life Insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • 401k with company match

We are an EEO employer.
