Night Web Editor – Portland Press Herald

The Portland Press Herald seeks an outstanding, accomplished journalist to run our website at night.

We are an ambitious news organization with high standards and a talented staff, and we need a superb editor to join our digital team. The night web editor edits and posts staff stories, selects and posts national and world news, writes headlines, determines the presentation of journalism on our website, prepares the site for morning, handles social media, writes newsletters, and finds other ways to engage our readers and subscribers. The night web editor must be able to change direction quickly as breaking news requires and must stay in regular communication with other night editors.

Our editors are more than grammar sticklers. They prosecute stories, looking for holes and structural problems. They pay close attention to how our journalism is rendered digitally and improve it without being asked. They suggest and execute ideas for interactives, multimedia and social media strategies.

If you are the best at what you do and share our passion for ambitious journalism, this is a great opportunity. You will be part of Maine’s finest and largest newsgathering operation, and you’ll live in a region with an extraordinarily high quality of life. A minimum of five years of daily news experience is required.

We offer:

  • Health, Dental and Vision Insurance
  • Short/Long Term Disability & Life Insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • 401k with company match

We are an EEO employer.
