Sports Reporter (Central Maine)

The Morning Sentinel newspaper in Waterville and Kennebec Journal newspaper in Augusta are seeking an enterprising and energetic journalist to join its sports reporting staff for the Maine papers and Centralmaine.com. This reporter will cover high school and collegiate sports games in the greater Augusta and Waterville area while devoting time to important regional issues, features and enterprise projects.

Waterville is an up-and-coming city in the heart of central Maine that is experiencing a downtown renaissance with multimillion-dollar investments in economic development and the arts/culture, while surrounding communities offer an array of outdoors and recreation attractions.

The reporter must have:

  • Excellent reporting and writing skills
  • Sense of urgency that compels them to beat the competition on developing news
  • Comfort with a digital-first environment
  • Proven ability to file stories on deadline
  • Experience rounding out stories with depth and context.
  • Applicants must also be willing to work nights and weekends.
