School spending per student
New data from the U.S. Census bureau shows that Maine's per-pupil spending exceeds the national average, but is also more frugal than neighboring states.
In the 2012-2013 school year, Maine public schools ranked 14th among all states in per-pupil spending at $12,147. That exceeds the national average by 14%, but it's less than spending in the other northeastern states.
Maine also ranks 14th among all states for per-pupil spending on teacher salaries, but it ranks 9th among states for per-pupil administrative expenditures.
