It’s close quarters as the competitors in the 1,600 meters compete for a state championship Saturday in the Class B meet at Mt. Desert Island High in Bar Harbor. Luke Laverdiere of Yarmouth captured the event in 4 minutes, 21.94 seconds, more than five seconds ahead of Chandler Vincent of Freeport. Foxcroft Academy took the team title.
Carolyn Todd of Greely leads the field during the first lap of the 1,600. Todd remained among the leaders, finishing second in 5 minutes, 14.27 seconds. The winner was Anneka Murrin of Yarmouth in 5:12.59.

Drew Nealey of Belfast clears 14 feet, 7 inches to not just win the pole vault in the Class B state meet but also set a Class B record.
Emma Egan of Yarmouth soars over the bar to become the Class B high jump state champion at 5 feet, 4 inches. Second was Betsy Hunt of Mt. View at 5 feet. Yarmouth finished fourth in the team competition.
