North Yarmouth Fire Rescue was alerted to the barn fire at 11:19 a.m. Saturday. When they rarrived at the scene at 150 Royal Road, the structure was already engulfed in flames.
To supply enough water to fight the fire, tanker trucks from several fire departments shuttled about 15,000 gallons of water to the scene before the fire could be extinguished. About 30 gallons of extinguishing foam were also used, according to North Yarmouth Fire Rescue.
Steam rises from the rubble as temperatures hovered in the low teens Saturday morning.
A cylinder containing an unidentified gas was found in the charred rubble after the fire was put out.
Fire crews from North Yarmouth, Yarmouth, Pownal, New Gloucester, Gray, Cumberland and Falmouth responded to the blaze. The scene was cleared by 2:45 p.m., according to North Yarmouth Fire Rescue.
