The “printer” is a giant, mobile piece of crane-like equipment that layers on cement in one continuous process.
The house was erected at the coldest time of the year. A warming tent was used to keep the equipment and concrete mixture warm enough to operate.
The printer builds two parallel walls reinforced with fiberglass struts. The resulting cavity is then filled with insulation.
Workers install double thermal pane windows. Windows and doors are the most expensive part of the project, accounting for about $3,500 of the total $10,000 cost.
The printed walls are finished using a mineral decorative plaster that allows vapor to pass through, and then painted.
