Brunswick Veterans Plaza opens, honoring all who served
What started as an idea for a Purple Heart monument on the Brunswick Mall, proposed by local veterans Gil Ormsby and Chick Ciciotte, quickly grew into an entire plaza honoring not just those who were wounded or who served in combat, but every person who took an oath to protect the United States.

Grant will reimburse Brunswick businesses for outdoor heaters
The goal is to help businesses extend outdoor dining and shopping for as long as possible. The town has $10,000 to use and estimates it can help between 20 and 25 businesses, but so far only four have applied.

Brunswick-Topsham bridge inspection finds more deterioration
The Maine Department of Transportation inspected the Frank J. Wood Bridge in early September and found the bridge deck has advanced corrosion damage to direct deck support components but remains safe for motorists, said spokesman Paul Merrill.

The new veterans plaza incorporates the existing downtown monument, which has been rotated 180 degrees, as well as a separately funded purple heart monument. Twelve sentinel posts surrounding the plaza will represent the 12 recognized major American conflicts spanning the American Revolution through the Global War on Terror.

Brunswick to help fund swinging bridge repairs
A condition assessment rated the Brunswick tower in “poor condition,” with a four out of nine rating, and Freeport-based CPM Constructors will replace the tower’s bottom channels, baseplates, channel anchor bolts and plates.
