NEW ON THE SHELF

“BELLE,” Tom Wilkinson, Miranda Richardson, Penelope Wilton, Emily Watson, directed by Amma Asante. The superb acting talent, lush cinematography, detailed sets and costumes will reward the fan of historical romance. Based on a true story, the screenplay by Misan Sagay was inspired by the 1779 painting of Dido Elizabeth Belle, and will be a most satisfying tale for both the Downton and Jane Austen fan. Rated PG. Running Time: 1:04. Suggested retail price: DVD rental only; Blu-ray $27.99.

“BLENDED,” Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore. Drawing on the chemistry that made such films as “The Wedding Singer” and “50 First Dates” so winning, Sandler and Barrymore reteam for this enjoyable (and surprisingly touching) outing, playing single parents whose disastrous blind date indicates they will have no further call to see one another, until they book themselves on the same vacation at a resort designed to help blended families become closer. The program is led by an insanely enthusiastic (and scene-stealing) Terry Crews. Rated PG-13. Running time: 1:57. Suggested retail price: $28.98; Blu-ray $35.99.

NEW TO DVD

“PORTLANDIA SEASON 4,” Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein’s hilarious skit show’s title refers to the “other” Portland, but make no mistake, it’s humor is right on target for satirizing our hometown’s PC mores. With guest stars Jello Biafra, Kirsten Dunst, Dan Savage, Jeff Goldblum, Jason Sudeikis, Kyle MacLachlan, Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi, St. Vincent, Maya Rudolph and Gus Van Sant! Running time: 3:40. Suggested retail price: $19.99

VIDEOPORT PICKS

“THE NORMAL HEART,” Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts. An essential HBO update of Larry Kramer’s award-winning off-Broadway play concerning the dawn of the AIDS crisis and its devastating effect on the gay community. Director Ryan Murphy (“Running with Scissors”) assembles an excellent cast – led by Ruffalo as Gay Men’s Health Crisis founder Ned Weeks – to relive this historic and harrowing era, but in the end it’s still Kramer’s blistering dialogue that carries the show. Not rated. Running time: 2:08. Suggested retail price: $19.97; Blu-ray $24.99.
