As Maine Center for Creativity gears up for its biennial gala event in November to present its prestigious Maine Creative Industries Award, it held a pre-gala cocktail party at the home of Hulda and Imad Khalidi in Cape Elizabeth honoring recipients Patrick Dempsey and The Jackson Laboratory.

“A lot of people in this room have made Maine Center for Creativity what it is,” said Jean Maginnis, founder and executive director, welcoming guests, making introductions and expressing appreciation for The Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing and The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor.

Both Mary Dempsey, co-founder and assistant director of the Dempsey Center, and Jennifer Trowbridge, a research scientist at Jackson Laboratory, shared their appreciation for being honored.

“I absolutely want to spread the word that it doesn’t matter where you live or where you are being treated, the Dempsey Center is there for you,” said Dempsey.

The intimate atmosphere was warm as guests mingled and admired the spectacular views. Ruth Calas of The Jackson Laboratory chatted with Sharron Sieleman, of Central Maine Health Care. Tory Ryden, director of marketing, community relations and development at Parkview Adventist Medical Center in Brunswick enjoyed the company of her husband, Pat Scully of Bernstein Shur, Jon Donnelly, a pediatric cardiologist, and Bill Williamson, state president of Bank of America.

Sandi and Sener Pasalic enjoyed the soiree alongside Christie and Phil Harriman of Yarmouth, Sydney Davis of Portland and Sally Newhall of Cape Elizabeth. Kathleen Greenleaf, the center’s former board president, and Jamie Moran, its new board president, also attended.

“The most important thing about this evening is to thank these people,” said Maginnis in a quiet moment as the party began to wind down. “This is about gratitude, and recognizing the people who dare to be creative and innovative and seek to make the world a better place.”
