Scott Schnapp, the longtime executive director of the Maine Association of Nonprofits, intends to step down next June.
Schnapp, who has been at the helm of the state’s trade association for nonprofits for 14 years, said he intends to work on projects both in Maine and nationally after he retires from MANP. The news was released Friday in an email to the association’s 750 members.
Schnapp has been widely credited with professionalizing the state’s nonprofit sector by providing resources and training. Nonprofits employ about one in every seven workers, according to 2014 research compiled by Healey & Associates and funded by MANP, Maine Community Foundation, Unity Foundation and the Maine Health Access Fund.
Nonprofits contribute about $10 billion to Maine’s economy annually, roughly 19 percent of the state’s gross domestic product.
