After one of the busiest summers for live music in Portland’s recent history, the concert scene remains in full swing with many huge bands coming through this fall. We’ve chosen three for your consideration, of the country, jazz and indie rock persuasion.

ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL, 8:30 p.m. Sept. 26, Portland House of Music & Events, 25 Temple St., $35 in advance, $40 day of show. portlandhouseofmusic.com/events

Asleep at the Wheel is one of the most storied acts in country, western swing and Americana. Since forming more than 45 years ago and releasing “Comin’ Right at Ya” in 1973, the Austin-based band has won nine Grammy Awards and has released more than 20 studio albums. Their latest is “Still the King: Celebrating the Music of Bob Willis and His Texas Playboys.” Asleep at the Wheel was founded and is fronted by Ray Benson, and although the band has seen many members come and go, their sound is still celebrated far and wide. The recently opened Portland House of Music & Events is an intimate space, and this show will likely sell out.

THE HOT SARDINES, 8 p.m. Oct. 1, State Theatre, 609 Congress St., Portland, $32-$57. portlandovations.org

Portland Ovations presents what surely will be an exuberant night of jazz that boasts plenty of brass, stride piano, a washboard and the red-hot, old-timey vocals of Miz Elizabeth Bougerol. Led by pianist Evan “Bibs” Palazzo, The Hot Sardines of New York City will be breathing fire into tunes from the ’20s to the ’40s, and beyond. Tickets are flying fast, so grab some while you can.

MODEST MOUSE, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20, Cross Insurance Arena, 1 Civic Center Square, Portland, $35-$45. crossarenaportland.com

Modest Mouse is back in the forefront of the indie rock scene with the release last spring of “Strangers to Ourselves,” their first album in eight years. The band, which now has six studio albums and almost 2 million Facebook fans, is based in Washington state, where their tour started. Modest Mouse will be performing in Portland at the Cross Insurance Arena in October.
