A Madison man was killed and two others were injured in a crash on Anson Road in Starks late Friday, shortly before a Norridgewock man died when he was hit by a pickup truck in Solon.

Clint Briggs, 21, a passenger in a car driven by Jonathon Cayford, 21, was found dead at the scene of the 10:37 p.m. Starks crash just west of the Old Ferry Road intersection, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department. No town of residence was available for Cayford.

At 10:53 p.m., Maine State Police responded to a report of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle on Ferry Street in Solon. The report came into Somerset County dispatch, but state police were asked to respond because deputies were busy at the Starks crash.

Joshua Sincyr, 31, of Norridgewock, who was walking in the road, was killed when he was hit by a pickup truck driven by Seth Burns, 18, of Embden, according to state police.

In the Starks accident, Cayford was driving west, passing a line of vehicles at a high speed when he went off the road, according to the sheriff’s department.

Deputies at the scene estimated Cayford’s speed at 80 mph. They said that as the vehicles he was passing approached a corner in the road, Cayford lost control of the 1998 Nissan Maxima, striking several trees.

A 17-year-old female passenger, who was in the front seat, was LifeFlighted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Her name was not available.

The vehicle involved has been impounded, and further tests will be conducted this week. The accident remains under investigation.

In the Solon accident, police said preliminary investigation shows Burns was driving a 1994 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck west on Ferry Street and Sincyr was walking in the road in an unlit area when the truck struck him.

The truck sustained extensive front-end damage, but Burns was not injured, police said.

State police are reconstructing the scene. The crash remains under investigation pending toxicology results from both Sincyr and Burns from the state Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
