A Connecticut couple have been charged with heroin trafficking after their car was stopped on Route 9 in Dayblock Township following a tip to law enforcement.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s Ellsworth office and Calais Police received a tip that a car was headed to the county from out of state and was likely carrying drugs.

Officers stopped Heath Jones-Sanchez, 23, of Waterbury, Connecticut, and Hillary C. Pugrab, 20, of Ellington, Connecticut Wednesday night.

Inside the car, police found 275 bags of heroin containing about 28 grams, with an estimated street value of $10,000. Each was stamped with the words “hands up.” Also found was a small quantity of marijuana.

Jones-Sanchez was charged with Class B heroin trafficking, which will likely be elevated to a Class A felony due to the amount of heroin seized, authorities said. His bail was set at $10,000.

Pugrab was charged with heroin possession. Her bail was set at $5,000.
