Work to repair a water main snarled traffic on Congress Street Wednesday.

The break was at 2445 Congress St., just west of Maine Turnpike Exit 46 and Hutchins Drive. Outbound traffic was moving through the construction area Wednesday afternoon, but inbound traffic was being detoured, said Michelle Clements, spokeswoman for the Portland Water District.

The district also had two other breaks Wednesday.

Water mains at 805 Brighton Ave., in the Nason’s Corner neighborhood, and at 122 Colonial Road were repaired and crews were expected to clear the dig sites late Wednesday afternoon, Clements said.

About 30 households near the Colonial Road break were without water during the day.

A larger break, of a 30-inch main in Gorham, will take until Thursday to repair, Clements said.
