ALFRED — The parents of an inmate are facing legal troubles of their own following a visit to the York County Jail.

A corrections officer observed Lisa Croteau, 45, of Arundel pass something to her son, Joshua, during a visit Sunday, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office. The item, which Joshua Croteau placed inside his shirt, turned out to be a balloon containing a marijuana joint, Suboxone and drug paraphernalia, according to authorities.

Both mother and son were charged with the felony offense of trafficking in prison contraband. Lisa Croteau was released later in the day after posting $1,000 cash bail.

Joshua Croteau, 20, of Arundel, is incarcerated for failure to pay fines and failure to appear in court. He is being held on a burglary charge.

When deputies went to the parking lot to tell Marc Croteau that his wife had been arrested, one of the deputies found a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Marc Croteau, 46, of Saco, was charged with the civil infraction of possession of a usable amount of marijuana and arrested for violating the conditions of his release.
