CASCO — A Naples woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and a Naples man was injured in a crash Tuesday morning on Poland Spring Road just south of Webbs Mills Road in Casco.

Shawn Trottier, 29, lost control of the 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck he was driving around 8:14 a.m. on the wet, icy roadway and spun into the oncoming, northbound lane of traffic and collided with a 2008 Freightliner box truck, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Trottier and his passenger, 33-year-old woman Sabrina Cloutier, both had to be extricated from the pickup truck by fire personnel, according to the press release.

Both Trottier and Cloutier were taken to Maine Medical Center. Cloutier’s injuries are considered life threatening. Trottier’s injuries, listed as possible broken bones, were not considered life threatening, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver of the box truck, Max Walton, 46, of Livermore Falls, was transported to Bridgton Hospital for what authorities considered minor injuries. The box truck was struck on the passenger door, the press release said.

Poland Spring Road, also Route 11, was closed to traffic between Webb Mills Road, Route 85, and Meadow Road, Route 121, while the accident was investigated.

The sheriff’s office said all three people injured in the crash were wearing seat belts.
