District 94 encompasses the towns of Buckfield, Hartford, Paris and Sumner.
Hayes, who was assistant Democratic leader during the past session, was challenged by Republican Timothy Turner of Buckfield. Turner requested the recount after unofficial results from Election Day indicated that he lost by 42 votes.
The secretary of state's office said Thursday that three candidate recounts have now been completed with nine remaining to be done.
