From staff and news services

CANTON, N.Y. - Patrick Doherty scored the go-ahead goal at 3:40 of the second period and St. Lawrence University held on for a 3-1 win over the University of Maine, spoiling Coach Red Gendron's debut for the Black Bears in a men's hockey opener at Appleton Arena.

Freshman Blaine Byron scored the lone Maine goal, tying the game at 1:48 of the second period following Gavin Bayreuther's first-period goal for the Saints.

Brian Ward added a goal at 13:14 of the second, and Matt Weniger made 25 saves for the Saints.

Martin Ouellette stopped 28 shots for the Black Bears, who play the Saints again Saturday night.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 3, MAINE 2: Meg Flatley knocked in a rebound in the 11th minute of overtime to put the Wildcats (7-5, 1-0 America East) on top of the Black Bears (6-6, 1-2) at Durham, N.H.

Maine led twice, getting a goal in the first from Annabelle Hamilton and one in the second from Danielle Aviani.

Megan Bozek and Emma Compagna had the answers for New Hampshire.

NOTRE DAME: The Fighting Irish and NBC Sports Group reached a three-year agreement calling for NBCSN to televise 12 Notre Dame home hockey games each year of the deal.

NBC Sports Live Extra also will stream those 12 games and eight more home games online.
