KINGSTON, R.I. – Alasdair Fraser scored 23 points and Justin Edwards added 21 as Maine edged Rhode Island 76-74 in overtime in a men’s basketball game Sunday.

Raheem Singleton hit two free throws for the Black Bears (3-2) to break a 74-74 tie in overtime, and Rhode Island’s Mike Powell, whose 3-pointer forced overtime, missed shots with 51 seconds left and at the buzzer.

Gerald McLemore had 17 points for Maine, with 14 coming in the first half when the Black Bears took a 39-34 lead.

Malesevic and Jamal Wilson scored 19 apiece for Rhode Island (1-7).

COLBY 71, FISHER 65: Ben Foreman scored 26 points as the Mules (3-2) beat the Falcons (2-9) to win the Colby Invitational at Waterville.

VERMONT TC 87, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 61: Kevin Carr and Tevon Erwin combined for 37 points to lead the Knights (8-1, 5-1 YSCC) past the Seawolves (5-6, 3-4) at South Portland.

Emmanual Donalson scored 14 points for SMCC. Nate Dow had 11 points and seven rebounds.

(7) BAYLOR 69, NORTHWESTERN 41: Quincy Acy and Pierre Jackson each scored 16 points and the Bears (7-0) cruised past the Wildcats (7-1) at Evanston, Ill.

WICHITA STATE 89, (18) UNLV 70: Joe Ragland scored 19 of his 31 points in the first half as the Shockers (5-2) knocked off the Runnin’ Rebels (8-1) at Wichita, Kan.

SAN DIEGO STATE 64, (24) CALIFORNIA 63: Chase Tapley scored 25 points, including two clinching free throws with 8.6 seconds left, and the Aztecs (8-2) held off the Golden Bears (6-2) at San Diego.

STANFORD 1, DUKE 0: Teresa Noyola scored from point-blank range and the top-ranked Cardinal (25-0-1) beat No. 3 Duke (22-4-1) at Kennesaw, Ga., to claim their first NCAA title.

FOOTBALL

BUTKUS AWARD: Luke Kuechly of Boston College won the Butkus Award as the nation’s best linebacker.

Kuechly, a junior from Cincinnati, led the NCAA with 191 tackles, also had three interceptions. His 532 career tackles are records for the Atlantic Coast Conference and Boston College, which finished at 4-8.
