Several local high school swim teams sent athletes to Saturday’s New England Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I.

South Portland’s Joe McGreehan was the big winner placing first in the 1-meter diving event with 288.75 points And the runner-up spot went to Scarborough’s Sam Ledue who tallied 229.55 points.

The Red Riots were also well represented in the girls 1-meter diving competition where Curry Girr took fourth with 268.50 points.

Scarborough’s swim team sent 12 qualifiers to the regional event and the top individual performances came from Allison Rogers (11th in the 200 free), Christine Beecher (sixth in the 500 free and ninth in the 200 IM), Sarah Reynolds (15th in the 100 back), Brittanie Bradley (13th in the 100 breaststroke), Jon Russell (10th in the 200 IM), Thomas Spencer (15th in the 100 fly), and Nick Twomey (fifth in the 100 back).

The Red Storm relay teams also did well with the girls 200 medley relay team (Reynolds, Bradley, Beecher and Rogers) taking ninth; the girls 200 freestyle relay team (Elizabeth Couillard, Caitlin Wright, Rogers and Bradley) finished 14th; the girls 400 freestyle relay team (Couillard, Rogers, Wright and Beecher) placed 14th; the boys 200 medley relay team (Twomey, Russell, Spencer and Shannon Bryant) took ninth; the boys 200 free relay team (Spencer, Bryant, Twomey and Adam Lenturerbel) finished 12th; and the boys 400 freestyle relay team (Spencer, Bryant, Twomey and Russell) took 14th.
