Portland students art
show opens April 29

PORTLAND — The Portland Public Schools Student Art Show will be held April 29 through May 13 at Portland City Hall. 

The show will feature more than 500 pieces of art in a range of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture and jewelry created by students from kindergarten through high school.

An opening reception will take place on April 29 from 3 to 6:30 p.m.  The Portland Public Schools Gig Orchestra will perform from 3:30 to 4 p.m.

The show is open during regular City Hall hours. 

Anti-drug play debuts
at PHS April 30

PORTLAND — An anti-drug play called Change will be performed at the Portland High School at 7 p.m. on April 30 and May 1.

General admission is $5, and tickets can be purchased at Toni’s Touch, located at 26 Forest Ave., Portland or by contacting the play’s organizer, Josh Hughes, at 615-3654.

Two Portland teams excel
at state Math Meet

PORTLAND — Math teams from King Middle School and Lincoln Middle School placed in the top five at the state MATHCOUNTS Competition held recently at Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield. 

King Middle School’s MATHCOUNTS team placed third in the state. Team member Evan Peaco, who placed third individually, will represent Maine along with three others, at the national MATHCOUNTS Competition held at Disney World this May.

Other members of the King Middle School team include Ava Koenigsberg, Maddie Logan and Ali Gorashi. The team is coached by Deb Treadwell. Jackson Treadwell, also a King student, qualified for the state meet as an individual and placed 11th.

Lincoln Middle School’s MATHCOUNTS team placed fifth in the state.  Team members include Jordan Roche, Zachary Duperry,  Benjamin Barnes, and Joseph Healy.
