The Scarborough Police Department, in conjunction with Drug Enforcement Administration, will be holding a “Drug Take Back” event, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the rear parking lot of the Scarborough Police Department, 246 Route 1, Scarborough. This national event’s goal is to safely dispose of expired or unwanted prescription drugs. Improper disposal of these medications can lead to contamination of our water supply and those meds that aren’t disposed of often lead to accidental poisoning, overdose or abuse. Representatives of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the State Planning Office will hold a public forum 6-9 p.m. at South Portland High School on proposed updates to federal flood hazard maps. FEMA is proposing updates to the maps, which may affect a homeowners’ necessity to purchase flood insurance, and could also restrict development opportunities.

Morrison Center, will host its second “25 cent yard sale” in the multi purpose room of the Center at 60 Chamberlain Road, Scarborough, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Shop early for great deals on clothing, small appliances, decorating articles, jewelry, toys, sports equipment and more. Donated items are appreciated and may be dropped off at the center every Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., through Oct. 2. A fall fair, and bottle drive will be held 9 a.m.-2p.m. at the Scarborough Free Baptist Church at 55 Mussey Road, Scarborough. Featuring a yard sale, craft sale, a cookie walk and a bottle drive. The proceeds from the bottle drive will benefit SFBC’s food pantry, which serves individuals and families in this community every week. The Fort Williams Charitable Foundation is sponsoring a walk in Fort Williams Park at 10 a.m. that will be guided by Joel Eastman and Dick Kurtz. The rain date is the following Saturday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m. The walk will highlight the military history of Fort Williams Park and the proposed engineering feasibility study of Battery Blair. Eastman is a well-known historian who conducts walking tours of Casco Bay’s many historic coastal defenses. The FWCF invites anyone who is interested in Fort Williams history to join the tour, which will meet at Battery Blair (directly opposite the Light House) at 10:00.
