CAPE ELIZABETH

ORGANIZERS of the TD Bank Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race have set online registration for the race to begin March 14 for Cape residents and March 15 for the public. Organizers also say the lottery has expanded by 250 slots for the race. Last year, the registration for Cape residents filled in 21 minutes. The online registration for the public was open for 32 minutes before all the slots were filled. Race organizers will accept an estimated 7,200 registrations this year, again targeting a race day field of 6,000. A record 5,672 runners finished the race last year. PORTLAND

THE DEADLINE to apply for the Joseph A. DiPietro Scholarship is May 15. The scholarship serves students in the Portland Water District’s member communities who will be attending college and are striving toward the water district’s mission to protect public health and the environment. The scholarship was established in 2003 in memory of Joe DiPietro, a respected businessman and longtime Portland Water District Trustee.

 

MAINE’S CREDIT UNIONS raised a record $402,740 for their Campaign for Ending Hunger. The funds will enable food pantries across Maine to purchase nearly $5 million worth of food through the Good Shepherd Food-Bank. The announcement was made at a recent special luncheon event, featuring an address by Rick Barry, who is in the NBA Hall of Fame. Since 1990, the Campaign for Ending Hunger has raised $3.9 million to help end hunger in Maine.

SOUTH PORTLAND

SPRING POINT LEDGE Lighthouse trust recently announced its 2011 open house schedule. The lighthouse will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning June 18 and will be open to the public most Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting. Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse is off Fort Road on the campus of Southern Maine Community College in historic South Portland. A $5 donation is requested. Children under 14 are admitted free.
