PORTLAND

MAINE HISTORICAL SOCIETY, in partnership with the Maine State Library, has launched a grant and training program to help local historical societies, libraries, and schools use the Maine Memory Network.

The grants and training program are designed to help communities to digitize and share their local history. Up to $750 will be available to support digitization projects. Grants up to $1,250 are available for organizations to create online exhibits. Grants up to $3,000 are available to create web sites dedicated to the history of local communities. BROADTURN FARM CAMP will hold its eight-week summer day camp from June 20 through Aug.12. The camp is for children ages 4-14 and will focus on farm and forest ecology, sustainable agriculture, and creative play.

Broadturn Farm operates a certified organic community-supported agriculture program that serves the Portland area.

Half-day programs are available for campers ages 4 and 5. The day is structured to include hands-on learning and creative play, including feeding the pigs, collecting eggs and exploring the woods and nearby stream.

Full-day programming is available for ages 6 to 9. The day is structured to allow campers to experience the workings of a small, organic and working farm. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in simple farm chores such as weeding, picking potato bugs and planting seedlings. The camp is also offering a new program for ages 10 to 14.
