WESTBROOK — A woman who lives across the street from the Central Street duplex where Robert Stubbs was fatally stabbed Thursday night said she saw the confrontation take place from her bedroom window.

Brenda Manchester said she heard shouting and looked out the window to see a man dressed in black standing on the porch at Stubbs’ front door.

“He kept saying, ‘Give me my (stuff),’ ” Manchester recalled. “He said it, like, a dozen times.”

Manchester said the man, who was black, then turned, ran down the porch stairs and up the street out of view.

She said the door closed, and when it reopened, Stubbs’ wife appeared to be “on the phone and freaking out.”

Police say Robert Stubbs, believed to be 40 years old, died as a result of wounds suffered in the stabbing, which occurred at about 10 p.m. Thursday in a Central Street apartment.

A woman with Stubbs is being treated for her injuries. Her name was not released.

Investigators say the stabbing followed an argument the couple had with a man who fled on foot and may have been given a ride.
