YARMOUTH — Ben Cox successfully defended his title and Chantalle Lavertu won her first at the 22nd annual Betty Blakeman Memorial tennis tournament this afternoon at Yarmouth High School.
Cox, 31, is the pro at Portland Country Club and hails from Vero Beach, Fla. He held off seven-time Blakeman champion Brian Powell, 41, of Kennebunkport, 7-6 (13-11), 6-3 to win the men’s title.
Lavertu, 20, of Lewiston will be a junior at Bowdoin College this fall. She beat doubles partner Maisie Silverman, 15, of Brunswick, 6-0, 6-2, in the women’s final.
